Don’t just visit the past, Get into it! One our recent family vacation this summer to Williamsburg Virgina we had a blast visiting Jamestown Settlement and the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown. Who knew history would be so fun. As my daughter says #Historyisfun! It was full of amazing family memories to be shared and last a life time. I would highly recommend this on your next family trip.

At Jamestown settlement and the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown, you and your family will take an active role in history. These two-living museums are conveniently located within 20 miles of each other, meaning you can help found a nation and then fight for freedom all in the same day. From steering a colonial ship to feeling the rumble of the cannon fire at battle, you’ll discover that our nation’s history isn’t just important It’s a BLAST. I would recommend if your families like mine family and have little ones ages (5years and younger) to take the day to enjoy. One at a time. This way you can stop throughout your day for an ice-cream break, which is much-needed to recharge and cool off in the mid-summer day.

JAMESTOWN SETTLEMENT- Thirteen years before the pilgrims landed in Plymouth, a group of 104 English settlers made a 4 1/2 month voyage across the Atlantic to the banks of the James River in the hopes of turning resources of the New World into profit. At Jamestown Settlement you we learn all about how the settlers who arrived in 1607 coped with the harsh realities of an unfamiliar environment , and how Powhatan Indians of Virgina adapted to their new neighbors.

Your family will love the living history museum filled with artifacts, artwork and interactive exhibits will engage young and old minds in America’s fascinating story. Then the story comes to life outdoors in a full-scale re-creations of the colonists fort and a Powhatan Indian village . Along with the riverfront pier with re-creations of the 3 ships that brought the settlers to Jamestown. Climb aboard the breathtaking Susan Constant and steer the whip staff, grind corn and dig out a canoe in the Powhatan Indian village, and get an up close and personal look at how the English colonists loaded and fired a matchlock musket inside the fort. (MY BOYS LOVED THIS ) Costumed historical interpreters in each area lead us in fun and informational hands-on demonstrations which we all loved and enjoyed.

AMERICAN REVOLUTION MUSEUM at YORKTOWN-  Your family will enjoy exploring this amazing 22,000 square foot exhibition galleries. start with “Liberty Fever” film followed by experiencing the heat , smell of gun powder and sea water, along with the rumble of the canon. watched on a 180-degree screen battle between the English and the French in the Chesapeake Bay.

then step outside to find your family live action fun. A RE-created Continental Army encampment, where you’ll have fun with the historical interpreters. Musket , mortar and cannon firing demonstrations in the new artillery amphitheater to marching lessons on the drill field along with exploring the Sleeping quarters in the solders tents. Then you can experience the Revolutionary farm, a tobacco barn, quarters for enslaved people, help tend vegetables, comb cotton and learn how the medical doctors back then cared for the soldiers.

Your family will surely enjoy this adventure as mine did and are looking to our next trip back.

The Pineapple Story

imageDid y’all know the story of the Williamsburg Pineapple?

In colonial times, a sea-captain discovered the pineapple on one of his exotic travels. He brought the pineapple home as a delicacy to be shared with his family and friends. He continued to bring home pineapples he would collect on his exotic travels and attach a pineapple to his front gate post when he returned home to let his friends and family members know that they were always welcomed to stop at his home to enjoy his family hospitality.

So began a legendary tradition that continues to this day. So the next time you see a pineapple flag outside my home, you are welcomed to stop in and enjoy some of my family’s hospitality.

Tiny Teachers

imageChildren are the best teachers in the world. They teach young women how to be mothers and young men how to be fathers. They teach older men and women how to be grandparents. They even teach other children how to be sisters and brothers.

Think about all the skills children teach people. They teach moms how to be teachers, chefs and nurses. Dads how to play and be super heroes. They teach brothers and sisters how to share……….toys, rooms, dreams, and even their favorite cookies. They teach teachers how to teach in creative and fun new ways.

Children teach the world how to love and be kind. They teach us to look past a person’s skin color and look right to his or her heart. They teach us how to be honest and innocent. They teach us how to hug, forgive, laugh and be enthusiastic.

Children can make us keep our promises because they never forget one that we make. They even make us into professors and scientists by asking us often “WHY?” or “HOW?” about everything. Isn’t it interesting that while we are teaching our children to be adults, they are teaching us to be children? That’s especially important when we remember that Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these” -Matthew 19:14

Does being grown up mean being content with “what is” when we could be striving for “what could be”?   Inspire me,  Child, to stretch my world as you stretch yours.

How to Defeat Mommy Stress

Hey  y’all.  If you’re a mama like me with a house full of kids then this blog post is for you. Do you ever feel stressed? Do You sit back at the end of a long day, put your feet up and wonder why do i feel so overwhelmed & drained?  I know there are days that I do. Sitting, Going over the to-do-list in your head of all the things you didn’t accomplish today and now having to add it to tomorrows list, with feeling guilty to trying to take some time for yourself . When you have a house full of kids .There is always something keeping us mammas on the go. After school soccer games, activities, Homework, projects, the endless piles of laundry you didn’t get to finish , meal prepping for the week, to so much more. The list never ends.

I love being a stay at home mama raising my 3 babies,  with my oldest who just turned 14 years old. I am still getting used to the thought of being a mom of a teenager with even a more demanding schedule. Yet sometimes you just want to take a little break and do something your yourself, because your still a person too. A women,  wife,  friend, desiring for that lunch date with your best friend your always to busy to meet, or just the thought of taking a nap with not feeling guilty for taking a little break from our duties of our busy day. OH, lets not forget that much needed date night with your husband.

As a mama it is so easy to let our emotions get the best of us . That is why it is so important for us mammas to start each day with prayer. We have to pray and ask God to fill us with his strength, provision, love, and self control. For God to be our daily portion each day. To be the best version of ourselves, women of God, friend, mother to our children and wife to our husbands. I want to be the best mom who God intends for me to be. To use the gifts and talents he has blessed me with. I want to share a book with you called “The Bathtub is Overflowing but I feel drained.”How to defeat mommy stress, by Lysa Terkeurst

This book was given to me by a dear friend of mine.  The moment I opened this book and read the first page I couldn’t put it down. It is one of my favorites! Lysa Terkeurst truly knows all about the “mommy stress” that comes along with being a mom of 5 children ,wife, managing a home & life. Lysa is the president of Proverbs 31 Ministries. In this book Lysa talks about how being a mother can be ,and is the greatest joy & blessing in our life. How us moms need to stop comparing each other to Super Mom vs. Slacker Mom. How important it is to give yourself permission to get refreshed & refill. Give ourselves permission to stop being a mom for a while and just be a women, a wife , a friend.  If we as moms  don’t take care of ourselves, then we will constantly feel drained and start to become secretly resentful to our family.  How us  mammas need boundaries, how the demands as mammas is never-ending, but yet so very fulfilling.

Lysa is such a refreshing, honest, and God filled women. In her book she will help you understand that your failures, struggles, feelings you experience ,to even failures as a mom are a normal part of the journey called “motherhood”. Her book will be the encouragement you will need, along with the encouraging help we learn from Gods word.

I just loved all the encouragement she gives us readers, at any stage we are in with our children.  Whether you have babies, toddlers running through the house, kindergartener , middle schoolers, to teaching our teens to drive. Lysa will share how to manage it all. Practical ways for us mammas to have more energy. How to trust in God with our greatest fears,  how to grow as a mom and a women. She shares with her own personal life, From one busy mom to another, as well as humor and compassion how you can be the best you. I hope you love & enjoy her book as much as I have.

Antiquing in Cape May

This past weekend my husband and I celebrated our 15th Wedding Anniversary. We had dropped our 3 children off to spend the weekend with their grandparents and headed to Cape May for the weekend alone. We both love Cape May spending time as a family with the kids , But this was a special time to spend together and explore the island. My husband and I love to go antiquing We love  finding  special, one of a kind Antique treasures to fill our cozy home.

There are 9 Antique shops on the Island. They are all very unique in their own ways , from very large antique furniture that will send you back in time with some great History behind them, to little treasures with different vendors under one roof. Whatever you’re looking for you will defiantly find it at one of these locations in Cape May, New Jersey.

If you love Orignal restored building artifacts, Victorian lighting, stained glass , fireplace mantels or are a collector of antique doorknobs ,then you will love The Antique Doorknob. It is an architectural showroom. They do a complete restoration of lighting & hardware . It will send you back in time. http://www.theantiquedoorknob.com

Calling all Coin, Military & Historical memorabilia collectors. This place is for you.  Valentino’s  store  is full of treasures, they are a family owned store, where you will find them just waiting to share their love and stories behind their unique treasures. They also Buy & Sell coins for all of you coin lovers. http://www.coinsmilitaryandmore.com

Then there is the West End Garage. My husband & I have marked this place as one of our favorites. It’s filled with all different vendors under one roof. I could spend hours in there from Vintage collectibles, antiques, farmhouse decor, Books, art & so much more. http://www.thewestendgarage.com

Along the way, we found another favorite to add to our list , TreeHouse Antiques . Explore 3000plus ,square feet of Fine antiques, artwork, furniture , artisan goods, and so much more  in this 2 level house.  A must see on your list . It is located near  the Historic Cold Spring Village & Cape May Winery. ( that will be on another blog I will be sharing with you very soon ) Their address is 742 Seashore Road.

Along the way , as we followed our Antique Shops map, marking our favorites,  We found Out of the Past Antiques. The name of this  place says it all. This place was filled with hard-to-find antiques & vintage memories. A place where my husband says,” It’s filled with Hollywood movie props , LOL.” Here you will find clothes from the past, hats, toys, dishes, books, holiday decor and so much more. If you are looking to film a movie you came to the right spot. A visit here will take you back in time.  www.outofthepastantiques.com

Next, we headed to Mary Ann’s  Jewelry and Collectibles . It was a little store located at 511 Washington ST. Mall. It was filled with Glassware, and Estate jewelry. If you are a collector of vintage gems, unique, one of a kind jewelry, then this place is for you.  After visiting there, our adventure continued to Antiques Emporia. This shop is filled with old and vintage dishes, toys, seasonal decor , homemade candles and more. My husband felt like a kid here, going through all of the vintage toys that he used to play with as a child.

Next stop was  Attic Treasures III. This place is more of a yard sale type of place (Sanford & Son T.V. show), not really what I would call an antique store. I am just being honest. We were in and out very quick. If you only have the day for Cape May antiquing, you may want to pass this one.

The last stop we headed to was Cape May Antique Center, and we saved the best for last . We marked this place as one of our favorites as well.  We will be coming back to this place again on our next trip. Cape May Antique Center is a place that is filled with different vendors , like West End Garage. I love that it has all types of refurbished items, furniture, pottery, primitive, cast iron decor, farmhouse & vintage decor,  huge military selection, jewelery and seasonal decorations.  You never know what treasures you will find here. http://www.capemayantiquecenter.com

I just love farmhouse, antique and vintage items . My husband and I love antiquing together when we get the chance. We had such a fun day exploring these new Antique shops. There is always a treasure waiting to be found. We are loving our new farmhouse treasure we found for our home.

Halloween Family Fun @ Walt Disney World

Walt Disney World is one of our family’s favorite vacation destinations. No matter what age our children are, its always been an adventure full of amazing memories. We have visited WDW throughout each season: summer, fall, winter, and spring. Our family’s two favorite times, I must say, are Halloween and Christmas.

Walt Disney World is such a magical place to begin with, but vacationing at these two special times makes it even more magical.  Halloween at Magic Kingdom was our favorite.  All my kids love the fall decor that fills the Magic Kingdom, from pumpkins with Mickey’s face on them to cornstalks, scarecrows, haystacks and so much more. But the most exciting event at this time is the Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.

It’s a Halloween-themed event held during the months of September and October .Your little ones, as well as adults, can dress up in their favorite costumes and become part of a very magical evening. Start the night with Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Character Parade . The kids loved seeing Mickey, Minnie, all of our favorite villains, friends and so many more.

After the parade is over, enjoy the rest of the evening by following a fun filled path of trick or treating throughout the park. Your kids will love filling their bags with all of Mickeys favorite treats. If you’re looking for some more fun, there is so much to experience throughout the night.  We love going to the special attractions and dance parties along the way. One of our  family favorites is the Haunted Mansion-for some not so scary fun and yes it’s not to scary for your little ones . My five year old loves it! You will end your night with an amazing Fireworks display and Castle display that is Halloween-themed.  Hope your family has as much fun making memories at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary-Halloween Party ! Don’t want to give away too much and spoil the fun. Stop back and visit my blog. Can’t wait to hear about your family’s favorite memories!

Happy Halloween Y’all 🎃
